The Linda Cowden Memorial Scholarship

The Linda Cowden Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Linda who died in July 2004 following a courageous battle with cancer. She was the administrative assistant and liaison to area Deaf clubs for more than 10 years.

The Linda Cowden Memorial Scholarship is a scholarship of $1,000 that will be awarded to:

• a Deaf/HoH person who has been accepted into a program to continue his or her education past the high school level, academically, or vocationally or;
• a hearing person who has been accepted into a program leading to a profession serving the Deaf or hard of hearing communities.

The applicants must live in one of the 16 counties of Tennessee that LDHH/EF serves (Cheatham, Davidson, Dekalb, Dickson, Houston, Macon, Maury, Montgomery, Robertson, Rutherford, Smith, Stewart, Sumner, Trousdale, Williamson, and Wilson Counties).

The Minnie Pearl Scholarship Program

The Minnie Pearl Scholarship is currently undergoing re-evaluation, and Hearing Bridges will not award this scholarship this semester. Please check back for updates and the new and improved Minnie Pearl Scholarship Program. Students who are currently eligible will be considered next time the scholarship is awarded. The Minnie Pearl Scholarship was established in 1986 with the help of Henry and Sarah Cannon (otherwise known as Minnie Pearl)

The Minnie Pearl Scholarship is a scholarship of up to $2,500 per year, for four years. This scholarship is only for undergraduate study and is to be used at any accredited junior college, college, university, or technical school in the United States.

Applicants to the Minnie Pearl Scholarship must meet all of the following criteria:

• Currently is a high school senior with at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
• Must plan to attend a junior college, college, university, or technical school on a full-time basis (12 hours per quarter or semester)
• Have significant (severe to profound) bilateral hearing loss.
• Be a mainstreamed student.
• Be a United States Citizen.
